Definitely interesting.

I'm pretty impressed with the flexibility of the samples, downloading the pack now to futz with.

Definitely fun.

jarrydn responds:

The samples slice up pretty well :)

I threw this together pretty quickly in my DAW without any crossfades, so I'm sure much better results can be pulled off by using something such as Audacity.

Length is a big issue here.

Whatever production value here is masked by the fact the song is long for the sake of being long. It doesn't maintain interest, for me.

Vocals. Autotune is cool, sure, but gets old real quick. I also sure would have loved to hear more than the one line. Like, really. If I wasn't reviewing this, I'd be out just because of how long it takes to introduce new vocal content. Near the end when you did that harmony thing, that was kind of neat.

Some of your instrumental breaks seem unmotivated musically, and just add time to this song that is already a bit too long.

I would be interested in hearing a condensed, more 'to the point' version of this song. I think you've got a solid framework up, and if you cut out some of the extraneous instrumental bits where nothing new is happening, it'd be a more dynamic, interesting track.

The broken speak n spell feel at the end was interesting. I feel the conclusion could have been a bit stronger.

Well that's what I got.

statueofdiveo responds:

yeah... but its clubby

Pretty slick

This is actually a pretty solid track. Nothing stands out as needing any significant improvement.

The instrumentals are all solid, I enjoy your singer's rendition of this song. The mixing is great, nothing stands too far forward or back in the mix.

All in all I would like to hear more stuff of this quality peekin through in the AP

Muesical-Pope responds:

Thanks a bunchh man :)
I hope I can continue to bring mixes as good as this one... but its a pretty high bar for myself.. This one turned out as well as paul and I could have hoped ^_^. A peice of pride for me.

Well.

It doesn't loop.

The synth overpowers the percussion quite a bit. The percussion has a very unfortunate rhythm.

The synth obviously has no consideration for key. It's almost painful to listen to.

It's obvious this took three minutes to make. This is not anything resembling a useful contribution to the portal.

karlkoolkid1999b responds:

ya it does

Interesting.

I like the intro. Feels very analog in spite of its electronic nature.

The drums... the snare is real tinny. I think all the percussion could be pulled back a bit in the mix, they kind of overpower the other instrumentation.

I kept waiting for a real 'lead' synth to kick in and play a crazy melody. You've created a very solid soundscape... but I wish there was something to come out and shine.

The bass kind of fell too far back in the mix for me.

Definitely too short. I'd like to see these themes developed into a full-length work.

Overall fairly good.

Syntrus responds:

interesting perspective i like a heavy beat which is front and center. what i think this site is looking for is simple background. this song achieves that well.

Goofy.

I like the synth. It's very open and pleasurable.

The song itself is pretty predictable techno, but it's fun. The little breakdown at 0:42 was cool.

A slightly wider variety of percussion might serve this track.

dude23 responds:

A slightly wider variety of ANYTHING might serve this track.

Hah!

This sucker made me laugh. That's a good thing.

Production quality is excellent. Sounds like something that might show up professionally. I like the vocal style.

Song structure is solid and I love the whistle solo.

curriemaster responds:

Thanks for the review dude. There are a few things I would do differently if I were to reamke this from scratch but on the whole Im pretty pleased with it. GLad you enjoyed it and thanks for reviewing!

Goofy!

I liked this track from the start, though with the big role that cymbal plays in the first minute of the song, I might have toned back the brightness just a little. Make it a little more gritty.

I like the lead synth. Percussion maintains interest throughout. Honestly, the percussion is probably the strongest part, but your instrumentation through out was interesting, if very widely varied.

Gorgorothx responds:

Thanks for the comments! I also feel that percussion is my strong suit. Cheers

Little slow.

Your melody could have come in sooner, and not ceased so quickly.

The arpeggiated 'bass' was fine as an introductory statement, but continued through the song just makes me think mario, over and over again. I'd try introducing some sort of changes to produce interest. More than throwing filters/EQ changes into the mix.

More prevalent percussion might help.

Ultimately the song feels like it's lacking direction and resolution.

Box-Killa responds:

Yeah the melody is short, but it makes you want it. When it comes, it has more affect, more penitration.

Yeah i did a lazy job on this song. Thanks for the review tho. Hope you liked it. If you want i will keep you informed with good songs that i made :D

peace out :D

Needs a lot of work.

It's very, very slow for over a minute and then we get assaulted with horrendous simulated guitars, playing a fairly uninteresting section.

Song ends -very- abruptly. The piano tone is a bit harsh. Noticeable hiss in track.

Aside from that, if you tighten up the song so it starts feeling like a really long introduction, fix those terrible guitars, and flesh out the middle bit before you end it, I'd like to hear the result.

ArisingFlame responds:

Well, the hiss was actually something I added in. As for the guitars, I didn't have any way to record actual guitars at the time. Trust me, this is going to be remade.

I'm currently employed as a professional sound engineer, travelling the country with a musical.
